What is The Cheque Up?
The Cheque Up is a music interview show hosted by Chuckie Online. The show launched in 2020 and its first episode was released in April of that year, in the midst of the first Covid-19 lockdown. The show is featured on Chuckie Online’s YouTube channel. Most of the guests are Black British musicians, including rappers and singers.
Unlike when guests appear on other Chuckie Online-hosted platforms, such as In the Duffle Bag or HC Pod, the pace is much slower and the environment is more relaxed. Interviews topics usually cover aspects of each individual’s career, but also delve into mental health and wellbeing.
The show is produced by Callum Root, who also produced HC Pod until early 2022.
The Cheque Up Format
The format of The Cheque Up is an informal one-on-one conversation in an open-plan luxury apartment. In each episode the host sits on a sofa in a discussion with the guest. The format is loose and each discussion takes a different path.
The style of interview tends to delve into the behind the scenes of life as a musician. This may include commentary on their recent career, their history or what they are planning to release in the near future.
As Chuckie has usually met the guests previously or has interviewed them on a different platform, he often avoids surface-level questions and focuses on topics to bring out the individual’s personality.
